Welcome to
The General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC)
Representing 180+ separate Professional Bodies & Training
Schools
and
now the designated umbrella body for the
Working
Group for Hypnotherapy Regulation
The
Working Group for Hypnotherapy
Regulation (WGHR)
is essentially comprised of the GHSC and the
Hypnotherapy Society
(HS).
Its primary purpose was to facilitate agreed standards
within the profession and subsequently bring about
Voluntary Self-regulation (VSR) - an officially
recognised status - for the entire industry. To that end the
Group actively co-operated with other industry
representatives within the Hypnotherapy Regulatory Forum
(HRF) - a body part funded by the Department of Health -
and as a consequence VSR was finally established via the
Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council
(CNHC) when it admitted Hypnotherapy into its
Department of Health sponsored regulatory system on 1st
December 2010.
The WGHR's main goal has consequently now been achieved and during its
temporary dormant phase all ongoing VSR representation will be carried out
via the GHSC, in full co-operation with the HS, by
continuing to maintain its role within the HRF.
The Council itself is
comprised of
Representatives from both Professional Hypnotherapy Organisations & Training
Schools
and an
Advisory Board
(which includes lay members of the public).
It
is
administered by the
General Hypnotherapy Register
(GHR)
and
its primary functions are to liaise with the CNHC on behalf of its
constituents, to agree
the criteria for the validation of Practitioner
and Advanced Level Training Courses
and
to continue to co-operate wherever possible with other relevant professional
bodies and agencies.
